A wonderful BPPN success story!
“I have been with the Buffalo Prenatal Perinatal Network since September 2017. Mykia was my Community Health Worker (CHW). I want to thank her as well as the BPPN staff for the help, support and resources for myself and my children.
Before I entered the program, I was living with a family member and I was pregnant and unemployed. I lacked any other social support. My healthcare and nutrition were not up to date. I needed help with housing, transportation to appointments, needed items for myself and my child, etc. Within the first year in the program, I began to manage my health concerns better, had obtained items for my myself and my baby. I also, obtained housing with the assistance of my CHW. My CHW Mykia helped me so much. Another of the many but important things that my worker helped me with she listened to me. I had a voice when we spoke and I was educated on so many different topics that I began to believe that I could have a voice for myself all the time. I felt good to have a person to trust with my thought and insecurities as well as my good times and breakthroughs. I have learned and gained so much.
I also enjoyed coming to the support groups for breastfeeding and empowerment. I even participated in SMC education and begin counseling shortly after completing the SMC program. I am still in mental counseling to this day.
Now that have completed the program, I have stable housing and employment. My children and have all our needs met and that is with the support of my CHW. I believe in this program so much that I have referred 3 women that I know to participate and they have found support with a CHW as well. I am very thankful for the community health worker program and I hope they continue to help young women across our city”, said Kayla Davis, BPPN Program Mom.
